Electrical Engineer, Compute Systems

The Compute Systems team at Waymo is responsible for pioneering high-performance digital systems crucial for the Waymo Driver. As a key leader in a dynamic, cross-functional environment, you'll be instrumental in directing and coordinating programs across various product areas, solving complex challenges, and driving innovation in autonomous technology. This role offers high visibility to leadership, promising growth opportunities, and the chance to work on cutting-edge projects.
In this role you'll:
- Develop test boards and sub-circuits within core Compute designs
- Own debug, field triage and root cause analysis for Compute modules
- Support bringup and validation of Compute hardware designs - executing test plans, deploying hardware setups and instrumentation
- Support scripting and automation of tools and processes within the team
At a minimum we'd like you to have:
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- 2+ years PCB design experience - schematic capture, board layout, manufacturing, test/debug
- Been through at least one full design cycle for a project
- Experience with hardware validation cycles, debug and measurement methods
- Experience with lab bring-up, debug of electronic systems, and manufacturing testing processes
- Familiarity with:
- Digital communication buses, such as CAN, I2C, SPI, UART
- Basic power circuits, MOSFET fundamentals
- Familiarity with Python and/or Linux environments
It's preferred if you have:
- 3+ years PCB design experience
- Delivered multiple projects to production stage
- Experience with high-speed digital interfaces, such as PCIe, DDR, MIPI, Ethernet
- Experience designing for automotive environments
- Familiarity with Cadence PCB CAD tools such as Cadence Allegro / System Capture
- Development experience with Python, Linux or C++ environments

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
